› Kerr Talks My Bloody Valentine 3D at W Hotel (Jan 14 2009)

Interviewer: When the script goes out and you guys get it and it's a slasher film. It doesn't have guys like Freddy Crouger. It's got some guy named Harry Warden who's this Canadian slasher guy. He's not recognized by the wider culture phenomenon. Did that scare you entering into a project like this, kind of like a consideration at all?

Kerr: Not for me cause I was a big fan of the horrors back then, late 70s, early 80s.

I mean, to me, Harry Warden is sitting right there beside Michael and Freddy and all those guys. I just think maybe he was sitting on the bench. We're taking him off the bench and we're playing him.

Interviewer: There was a period when slasher films were being very wink-wink and now this goes back full circle and starts taking itself very seriously again which is great. Was that one of the most appealing things about the script when you got it or was it a chance to redo kind of the subscure slasher films?

Kerr: Yeah, they started this project off right. They wrote a compelling story, a solid story. And they developed the characters to a point where you care about these people, they're real people. Every horror flick has an element of campyness to it, but we tried to stay away from that the best we could.

Interviewer: Did you know right from the beginning that it was gonna be in 3D?

Kerr: Oh man, I mean those rock walls. You saw, I mean just everything. That's the great thing about this new 3D technology, you look at the frame, you look at an image and you notice that a lot of the shots are a lot wider in this movie. Everything in the frame becomes interesting. It's cool.

Interviewer: And the pick axe is a hell of a weapon too.

Kerr: Yeah, it is a hell of a weapon right!
